Sydney is an iconic harbour city – recognised the world over. There is colour, light, history, contemporary, water, garden and beauty in every natural and man made form. However it has to be the harbour that makes Sydney a favourite for wedding couple inspirations.
Below is a tour of city wedding photography locations in Sydney. However as wedding photographers in Sydney for 20 years we are not limited to the well known – there are secluded, little known and beautiful spots that you can use for your wedding photography – just call us to talk about your wedding photography needs.
Sydney City North
Wedding photographers love these locations. They aren’t secret. They are timeless however. Timeless backdrops for magnificent wedding photos. b
Starting from Sussex street we have earthy tones and contemporary textures found opposite the old container site.
Continuing down are the Piers that define Sydney Harbour. The restored piers offer amazing angles and perspectives for photos. Just like the pier restoration – the old wool sheds that have been converted into restaurants offer great reception venues and wedding photo backdrops.
Dawes Point Park and Dawes Point Reserve are the most popular spots for Sydney wedding photography. They offer a perfect blend of park and harbour views plus some unusual shots from being under the bridge.
Sydney Cove
Sydney Cove offers so many beautiful and unique buildings from the overseas passenger terminal to the Opera House.
The overseas passenger terminal provides sweeping city scapes. Continuing along there is the MCA and the bustle of Circular Quay. Before you get to the iconic Opera House and its harbour views sweeping back toward the bridge. There is such a diverse geometry, such unique shapes.
Sydney is a spectacular city for photos.
Farm Cove
The Botanic Gardens are a haven for photographers. There are the views over Sydney harbour and the gardens themselves such a range of beautiful settings. Thick rainforest, rose gardens, spectacular flower gardens, Government House and more.
From the Botanic Gardens you can continue around to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair – a picture postcard shot of Sydney.
The Rocks
No conversation about Sydney wedding locationsis complete without mentioning the old Sydney – the Rocks. Starting in Argyle street there are some quaint arches and cobbled stone courtyards. The tunnel under the bridge creates interesting designs. There is the Garrison Church and Observatory Hill. Observatory Hill is another one of the favourite destinations for Sydney wedding photography. With it’s huge fig trees, timber rotunda and historical observatory set in the middle, this location has it all for wedding photographs.
The Beauty of Sydney Sandstone
The Art Gallery of NSW has imposing columns and statues. It is a perfect backdrop for classical romantic wedding photos with a touch of timeless and historic elegance. Saint Mary’s Cathedral, the redesigned Cook and Phillip Park and Hyde Park arched tree promenade offer a perfect mix of sandstone and nature.
Sydney CBD
The Sydney CBD locations include Martin Place. The Westin Hotel which was the old GPO has a
gallery that runs along this building makes me think I’ve been teleported to Europe for a brief moment.
The sumptuous long gallery makes wedding photos gain a regal and rich appeal. This is contrasted with the funky retro alternative wedding photo shots that can be delivered by the little lanes off Martin Place.
PM love capturing the essence of the emotions in wedding photos. We have been talking about well known and iconic Sydney locations. It is easy to imagine couples being swallowed by the imposing structures and enormity of the city backdrops but at PM we use them as merely backdrops. Backdrops to showcase your beauty, your love, and your joy.
